Wallenius expanding Savannah operations center

Leading shipper of rolling cargo takes another floor in SEDA building on Hutchinson Island

Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, a global leader in roll-on/roll-off cargo, will expand its operations center in the Savannah Economic Development Authority building, retaining another full floor in the only Class A office building on Hutchinson Island.

SEDA President Steve Weathers made the announcement Tuesday at the monthly meeting of SEDA's board and advisory council.

Wallenius will now occupy the second and third floors of the four-floor building.

Mitsubishi to grow faster than expected

90 employees expected by year's end; 200 by end of 2011

The original time line called for Mitsubishi to bring some 200 employees - at an average salary of $58,000 - on board by the end of the first two years of operation. That number was projected to grow to nearly 300 by the end of the third year before topping out at about 500 by 2016.

After seven years of entertaining well-heeled suitors - only to be left at the altar - the much-touted Pooler megasite has finally found its match.

Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas Inc. will locate a new, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility on a portion of the megasite, ultimately creating 500 jobs and investing $325 million.

Gov. Sonny Perdue and Mitsubishi Power Systems senior vice president Dave Walsh made the announcement Monday at the plant's groundbreaking near the intersections of Interstates 95 and 16.

The just-released Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity shows Georgia is home to 590 entrepreneurs per every 100,000 adults, moving the state from third in 2007 to number one this year. Additionally, Georgia ranks third in the U.S. in the number of companies on the 2008 Inc. 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies listing.
